Future Resource Economy and Policies in Laos till the Year 2020 (FREPLA2020) Project Seminar will be held on 27th of August 2010 in Vientiane, Laos

FREPLA2020 Project organizes a high level seminar on resource economy policies and natural resources management. It will gather several Laotian Ministries and representatives from donor organizations to discuss macro-economic development and energy use scenarios of Laos, policies, challenges and needed development policy portfolios related to different sectors and natural resources management among other things.

 

The Third Future Resource Economy and Policies in Laos till the Year 2020 (FREPLA 2020) workshop will be organised on the 9th and 10th of March 2010 in Nakai District in Khammouane Province, Laos.

The third Workshop of the FREPLA project is focusing on the concrete planning issues and challenges in Lao PDR. In this workshop the results of previous workshops will be critically discussed and updated FREPLA document will be reflected in the context of global economic financial crisis.

 

The Second Future Resource Economy and Policies in Laos till the Year 2020 (FREPLA 2020) Scenario workshop will be organised on 29th- 30th of October 2009 in Luang Prabang, Laos.

The second Workshop of the FREPLA project is focusing on the future investments of the Lao PDR before the year 2020. The aim is to analyze investment portfolios of the key sectors of the Lao PDR. The target of the workshop is to create visions for the roadmap of future investments in the Lao PDR, and discuss about alternative development paths. One strategic challenge of the workshop is to analyze linkages between different economic sectors and the activities of energy and natural resource usage.

Future Resource Economy and Policies in Laos till the Year 2020 (FREPLA 2020) Scenario workshop will be organised on 3rd of June 2009 in Vientiane, Laos.

The aim of the workshop is to introduce possible futures of resource policies and economies in Laos. The workshop is held by Turku School of Economics/Finland Futures Research Centre in co-operation with the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the National University of Laos (NUOL). The participants will be representatives of the government of Lao PDR and its development partners.

FFRC is starting 4 new research and capacity-building projects in Laos and Cambodia

  • Why Renewable Energy Projects Fail? Design and Implementation of Energy Assistance Projects in Cambodia and Lao PDR (DREAM) The project improves understanding of reasons why renewable energy projects in developing countries often fail, and means to develop the planning and implementation of future renewable energy projects. The overall aim is to help the transition towards increasing sustainable use of renewable energy in the developing countries.
  • Knowledge for Development: Creating Rural Resource Database for Sustainable Livelihoods in Cambodia and Laos (SURVEY)The objective of this research project is to provide basic data on rural resources and livelihood strategies in Cambodia and Laos that would support climate sensitive and sustainable natural resource policies and improved development assistance for poverty reduction.
  • ICI-Laos: Institutional Partnership between Faculty of Engineering of National University of Laos (NUOL) and Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) of Turku School of Economics (TSE) The objective of this capacity-building project is to develop the field of environment and renewable energy education in the National University of Laos in order to promote sustainable electrification and economic development of the country.
  • ICI-Cambodia: Institutional Partnership between Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) and Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) of Turku School of Economics (TSE) The objective of this capacity-building project is to develop the education of renewable energy experts in Cambodia in order to promote sustainable electrification of the country and help reduce rural poverty.
