Why Renewable Energy Projects Fail or Succeed? Design and Implementation of Energy Assistance Projects in Cambodia and Lao PDR (2009-2012)

The aim of this project is to help the transition towards increasing sustainable use of renewable energy in the developing countries. It improves understanding of reasons why energy projects often fail, and means to develop the planning and implementation of future renewable energy projects. It develops a multi-disciplinary methodology for assessing the impacts of the projects and designing environmentally benign projects that would generate continued benefits for the communities. Institutional Partnership for Sustainable Energy Futures project between Faculty of Engineering of National University of Laos and Finland Futures Research Centre

This capacity building project aims through improved knowledge of future energy experts at sustainable development and the promotion of renewable energy in rural electrification. The objective of the institutional partnership stems from the need for capacity building in the field of energy and environmental education in the Faculty of Engineering in the National University of Laos (NUOL). The project will improve Faculty of Engineering academic staffs' teaching skills and capacity to conduct research in the field of energy technology, energy efficiency and environmental technology. The Project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

Institutional Partnership between Institute of Technology of Cambodia and Finland Futures Research Centre

In Cambodia there is a stringent need for energy professionals specialised in renewable energy technologies in order to achieve sustainable energy sector development, to increase the use of new and renewable energy resources in energy production and to support national self-sufficiency in energy. The target of this Institutional Partnership project is to develop the educational and research capacities in Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) and to create a Master’s degree programme in Energy Engineering. The Project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

Sustainable Energy Development in Developing Countries - Evaluation Tool for CO2 and Energy Efficiency Analysis and Climate Policy (2002-2004 )

The objective of the project was to develop dynamic efficiency measures and apply them in the analysis of the energy sector and climate policy of developing countries. The target of the project was to produce a new approach and a practical tool for the evaluation of the Kyoto climate policy process and global climate change negotiations from the perspective of the developing countries.
